In response to increasing environmental awareness among the general population and the increasingly urgent need for environmental protection, the Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB) of Chiayi County was established on April 1, 1991, as an official organization dedicated to environmental protection.
The Bureau was initially staffed by the personnel of the Health Bureau, with the Health Bureau Director Ming-chang Jhong serving as the acting director. The Bureau has since gradually filled its ranks and openings with new personnel. In recent years, the dedication and hard work of everyone at the Bureau are geared toward transforming Chiayi County into an energy-efficient and pollution-free place, where there are blue skies, green mountains, pure waters and green fields.
In the beginning, the staff operated in a leased building located next to the Chia-Pu Highway, with limited resources, equipments, personnel and funding. Thanks to the support of the County Magistrate and the efforts of all Bureau employees, we are now able to carry out most of our missions and many of our programs have received positive reviews from the public.
The new Environmental Protection Building was completed on March 29, 2008 and the Bureau has since moved into the new premises. The building with its excellent facilities has come as a great boost to the morale of our staff and the efficiency of our service, thereby resulting in much praise from the general public.
